Professor Calvin Johnson was the first professor to receive the Thomas B. Day Award for Excellence in Physics. In addition to theorizing about computational quantum mechanics, Johnson is a science fiction author and dedicated teacher.
Malida Hecht was recognized as the inaugural outstanding graduate student for her contributions to the Department of Physics. Brandon Cunnane was recognized as the outstanding medical physics student. Kieran Smith was awarded for his excellence as an undergraduate physics major.
