In June-July 2012 William Spinella took part in a training course in Advanced Low Energy Nuclear Theory at the European Centre for Theoretical Studies in Nuclear Physics and Related Areas (ECT*) in Trento, Italy. The course was taught by professors from Italy, Sweden, and the U.S. including Dr. Calvin Johnson, professor of physics here at SDSU. The aim of the course was to present relevant high-performance computing topics and apply the presented methods to quantum mechanical systems with many interacting particles. Projects focused on the development of quantum Monte Carlo simulations and nuclear shell model codes. William is currently a PhD student in Computational Science conducting research in physics. Funding for William’s participation in this course was provided by Dr. Calvin Johnson and ECT*.
